Vicki Woods and Kaci Cole were sworn in as Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education members in a ceremonial meeting Friday evening at R-5 High School. Incumbent President Andrea Haitz was also sworn in for her second term.
The meeting, held in a mostly full Harry Butler Board Room, made official the realignment of the board to having a majority of its members (Woods, Cole and Jose Luis Chavez) supported by the district’s teachers’ union, the Mesa Valley Education Association.
Woods defeated previous Secretary Angela Lema and Cole defeated previous Vice President Will Jones in the election held in early November. Haitz was the lone incumbent to win re-election, defeating challenger Mike Rathbone.
