Justice Suryakant will be sworn in as the next Chief Justice of India on November 24 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where Chief Justices and Supreme Court judges from seven countries, including Brazil, will be present.
This will mark the first time in Indian judicial history that such a large international judicial delegation will attend a CJI's oath ceremony.
Chief Justices from Bhutan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, along with their family members, are expected to participate.
The current CJI, DY Chandrachud’s successor CJI Gavai’s term ends on November 23. Justice Suryakant will serve until February 9, 2027, giving him a tenure of about 14 months.
