As the heartbreak of a preliminary final loss sinks in, Melbourne coach Mick Stinear says he and star Eden Zanker have yet to mull on their AFLW future.

The Demons' premiership dream ended on Saturday, when North Melbourne pulled off a nailbiting fourth-quarter comeback to snare a 10-point preliminary final win.

Melbourne came agonisingly close to ending the defending premiers' 25-game winning streak and booking a grand final spot after building a six-point lead at three-quarter time.

But the formidable Kangaroos stood tall in the end after two goals from Blaithin Bogue and captain Jasmine Garner.

Stinear, who coached the Demons to their first premiership in 2022, is now uncontracted after signing a one-year extension for this season.
