CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Saturday morning in south Charlotte.

Officers responded to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon at around 2:04 a.m. in the 4800 block of Wallingford Street. Upon arrival, they found a victim with a gunshot wound.

Medic pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to call 704-432-8477 to speak directly with a Homicide Unit detective. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
