Sadio Mane has recalled rejecting Manchester United following a 'killer' intervention from Jurgen Klopp.

The Senegalese forward claimed every major trophy during his time with Liverpool between 2016 and 2022 after arriving from Southampton. But he was so close to becoming a United player, holding talks with then-manager Louis van Gaal and even agreeing terms.

However, everything changed when Klopp, who had previously tried to bring Mane to Borussia Dortmund, made contact. He told Rio Ferdinand's Presents show: "Klopp called me. He apologised [that the Dortmund move didn't materialise]."

The German then delivered the vital line: "You'll play every game." Mane added: "He said, 'We will build a team no one wants to play against and you will play every game.'"
