Top End residents are assessing the damage this morning and switching to clean-up mode after enduring a rough night of damaging winds and heavy rain as tropical cyclone Fina barrelled through.
Households in Darwin and surrounds were told by emergency authorities on Friday to stay in their homes or emergency shelters until given the all-clear.
The category-three storm brought destructive winds and heavy downpours to remote Tiwi Islands communities, then Darwin and surrounds on Saturday and into Sunday.
Wind gust of up to 100km/h were recorded at the Darwin Airport overnight, according to Bureau of Meteorology.
Fina is currently tracking just northwest of Darwin and is continuing to slowly move away from the coast, where it is expected to strengthen into a category four system.
