RANDOLPH, Vt. (WCAX) - A Vermont mother is working to ensure every fallen Vermont veteran receives a wreath on their grave after losing her own daughter to suicide following military service.
Susan Sweetser’s daughter Ginny died by suicide in after her deployment to Iraq. Ginny had suffered a traumatic brain injury from a blast and battled PTSD.
While visiting Ginny’s burial site to deliver a wreath, Sweetser noticed other veterans didn’t have wreaths on their graves. The observation prompted her to help the organization Wreaths Across America, which collects donations to decorate graves.
“It was sad. And it made me realize there are so many veterans who don’t have family in Vermont anymore,” Sweetser said.
