New Delhi: Israel launched fresh airstrikes in Gaza on Saturday, increasing pressure on the ceasefire that is in effect since October 10. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the strikes killed five senior Hamas members. But health officials in Gaza said the attacks also killed at least 24 people and injured 54 others, including many children.
The violence came at a time when the international community is pushing for a long-term peace plan for Gaza. Earlier this week, the UN Security Council approved a US-backed proposal for how Gaza should be stabilised and governed.
