New Delhi, Nov 23: The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 aims to modernize India’s power sector by enhancing competition in distribution, improving regulatory oversight, and establishing fair pricing mechanisms.
It addresses inefficiencies in distribution companies due to poor billing, high technical and commercial losses, and a lack of competition.
The Bill promotes regulated competition by allowing multiple licensees to operate in the same area and mandates a Universal Service Obligation (USO) for all licensees, ensuring access for all consumers.
It aims to implement cost-reflective tariffs while protecting subsidized consumers, with plans to eliminate cross-subsidies for industries within five years.
