GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Saturday was the first day of the gun deer season, and a lot of hunters didn’t go home empty-handed.
Right now, the population of deer, estimated at three million, is a record high in the state, with growing numbers especially in southern counties.
Hunters across Wisconsin hit the woods before the sun came up Saturday morning for what’s become a tradition for many, like Austin and his uncle Jim Ramminger.
“I love it and it’s fun and memories of a lifetime with your family members or your friends that you want to go with. You know, just… memories,” says Austin Ramminger.
What makes this trip even more special for Austin and Jim is using their grandpa Wally’s Remington 870. A shotgun that’s now being passed down in their family.
