STATE COLLEGE – A few weeks ago, Penn State interim head coach Terry Smith handed the keys to the Nittany Lions’ running game to Kaytron Allen.
Allen would no longer be in a 50-50 timeshare with his good friend and 2022 classmate, Nick Singleton.
Allen was going to get the ball on most running plays.
He was ready.
In PSU’s first game with Smith running the show, the Lions came up just short in a 25-24 loss to Iowa in Iowa City.
Allen carried 28 times for 145 yards and a pair of scores.
Afterward, the senior was exhausted.
And happy.
“Every time I get the ball, I feel good,” Allen said shortly after Penn State lost to the Hawkeyes.
“Just give me the ball, I’m good.”
Penn State’s offensive approach didn’t stop after the defeat.
