Nationals leader David Littleproud has called out the Bureau of Meteorology following a controversial redesign of his website costing close to $100 million.
The Sydney Morning Herald revealed on Sunday that the cost of the new website had blown out to $96 million - a figure confirmed by new bureau chief Dr Stuart Minchin.
Dr Minchin said the cost of the redesign had included the consultancy contract, security testing, and other associated costs.
It comes after months of criticism over the website’s usability, particularly changes to radar maps and difficulties navigating localised data.
Mr Littleproud slammed the hefty price tag as “unbelievable”, pointing out the website redesign contract alone had cost $78 million.
