Mesa Public Schools has over $1 billion in needed fixes and upgrades and will have to look for a local funding source rather than rely on a state grant program, according to district officials.

The Building Renewal Grant Program, funded by the state Legislature, helps with major renovations and repairs so schools are safe and functional for students. In just the last seven years, Mesa Public Schools has received just over $61 million from that program.

“These BRG bonds are vital in that they address the adequacy within our schools – projects that are deficient in nature,” Chief Business Officer Tyler Moore said at the Nov. 13 Governing Board study session. “We’re very appreciative of this program.
