The anticipation leading up to Friday’s meeting between New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and President Donald Trump at the White House had a Battle Royale feel to it.

The pair had exchanged vicious barbs for months. Trump called Mamdani “a communist lunatic” and threatened to withhold federal aid from NYC if the Democratic Socialist was elected. Meanwhile, Mamdani labeled Trump a fascist while calling out many of his policies.

However, in a political surprise, what was expected to be a showdown fit for pay-per-view turned into a cordial meeting. Trump and Mamdani seemed to find common ground and vowed to work together, with some pundits calling the summit a “lovefest.”
