An investigation is underway after, officials say, a man was shot in the back overnight in an incident that happened along North Hicks Street.

A man has been hospitalized after, police say, he was discovered by officers after being shot in the back overnight in North Philadelphia.

According to police, at about 5 a.m. officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim along the 2700 block of North Hicks Street in North Philadelphia, to find a man who had been shot in his back.

The man -- who police did not immediately provide further information on -- was taken to a nearby hospital.
