STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Brooklyn motorist is in NYPD custody after multiple vehicles crashed on the Staten Island Expressway early Sunday morning.
Multiple NYPD and FDNY units were summoned to the highway after six vehicles were part of a crash on the westbound Expressway, near South Avenue, that resulted in all lanes of the Expressway being briefly shut down.
At approximately 2:42 a.m., the FDNY reported that one of the six vehicles involved in the crash had caught fire.
Police arrested Elijah Alabi, 36, a Brooklyn man who was operating a 2021 Lexus SUV that was involved in the collision. He was driving without a suspended license, said the NYPD.
According to FDNY Battalion 21, two injuries were reported, and the condition of those injured is unknown at this time.
