A Virginia manhunt ended in one of the most unexpected ways possible — with the suspect asking a homeowner to call him an Uber.

Deputies in Caroline County arrested 26-year-old Daniel Lee Davis after he fled from Virginia State Police during a vehicle pursuit on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said.

Davis ran from the crashed vehicle and took off into the area of Bull Church Road and Floyd Madison Drive, sparking a public safety alert that went out to residents across the state.

The sheriff’s office said there was “no specific information indicating a threat to the general public,” but encouraged residents to stay alert and call 911 immediately if they saw him.

A short time later, the break came — not from law enforcement, but from a resident who recognized Davis after reading the alert.

According to the sheriff’s office, Davis showed up at her home and asked her to call an Uber.

The woman didn’t call the ride.

She called 911.

“A citizen called 911 after receiving the earlier Caroline Alert reporting that the suspect arrived at her home asking for someone to call Uber for him,” the sheriff’s office said. “The alert citizen notified the sheriff's office, and a deputy arrived shortly after and took the suspect into custody.”

No injuries were reported.
