A Hempstead man became violent and struck a detective after being taken into custody in Baldwin, Nassau County police announced on Sunday, Nov. 23. 

Jocelain Guillaume, 40, was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 10:50 p.m. for two open Nassau County bench warrants, according to First Squad detectives. 

Detectives said Guillaume made several threats toward them while being transported to the precinct. When they arrived at the First Precinct, he became combative and violent, and a struggle followed. Before officers were able to subdue him, Guillaume allegedly struck one detective in the face and broke the officer’s necklace, police said. 

Guillaume is charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, according to the release. His arraignment is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 23 at First District Court in Hempstead.
