As of the end of the week’s Mayor of Kingstown episode, “Damned,” we’re halfway through season four. And I’m starting to wonder if this one will be the last one. There are all kinds of behind-the-scenes reasons why the show could be winding down — most notably the end of producer Taylor Sheridan’s deal with Paramount. Yes, the company can keep Sheridan’s existing projects going if they want to. But will they want to? Mayor of Kingstown has never been as high-profile as the likes of Landman or Yellowstone — even though, when this chapter of his career is closed, Kingstown may prove to be the best of his TV work.
But the real reason I wonder if we’re currently watching the show’s swan song is that this season has been refreshingly direct about the overall shakiness of Mike McL
