A homeowner says he was forced to defend himself and his family during a attempted break-in that ended with one man dead Saturday night, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Gunshots and screams were heard in the Richmond Heights neighborhood around 7 p.m., as home surveillance video captured the chaotic moments before police arrived. Investigators say four men were trying to break into the home when the shooting occurred.
“It’s unfortunate. It’s the worst night of my life,” the homeowner told NBC6.
He said the confrontation began when one man was sitting on his porch and three others stood in the front yard.
“I heard my mom scream, ‘Get off my porch, I’m going to call 911,’” he recalled. “So I became frantic and I started looking for my gun.”
