GUNNISON, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Parks and Wildlife are searching for information on what they call the illegal killing of a female mountain lion.
They said the lion’s body was left in Taylor Canyon, northeast of Almont, near the group campsites at Gunnison City Mountain Park. According to CPW, the lion had been shot through the chest and left in the bushes.
Officials said the lion was part of CPW’s mountain lion density study in the Gunnison Basin. They add that the lion was also poached out of season, as the carcass was discovered three days before the start of legal mountain lion hunting season in Colorado.
Additionally, they said any wildlife killed in self defense should be reported to the nearest CPW office.
