NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — One man is dead and another has been arrested, after an incident at a rooming house in New Bedford late Saturday night.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Sunday night that 56-year-old Curtis Pina died after he was hit in the head with an object.

38-year-old Arirto Santiago was subsequently arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

According to officials, police were called to Sawyer Street around 11:30 p.m. Saturday for reports of a fight between neighbors.

Officers found Pina on a third-floor landing, bleeding from his head.

He was taken to a local hospital, where the district attorney’s office says he died a few hours later.
