PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman is recovering in the hospital after being rescued from a Phoenix-area hiking trail on Sunday.

Phoenix Fire crews responded to Pima Canyon Trailhead at South Mountain around 4 p.m. for reports of an injured hiker.

When they arrived, crews found a woman about one mile away from the trailhead. The woman told first responders she fell and hurt her leg, which is why she couldn’t make her way down the trail herself.

Firefighters used the big wheel operation to bring her down the mountain successfully. She was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
