TORONTO - The Toronto Raptors defeated the Brooklyn Nets 119-109 on Sunday, marking their seventh consecutive victory. Scottie Barnes led the Raptors with 17 points, while RJ Barrett contributed 16 points in 20 minutes before leaving the game due to injury.
Barrett exited the game in the third quarter after landing awkwardly from a dunk, resulting in a sprained right knee. He was the leading scorer for Toronto at the time of his injury. The Raptors improved their record to 12-5 with this win.
Despite the loss, the Nets had strong performances from their players. Tyrese Martin led all scorers with 26 points, while Michael Porter Jr. added 25 points. Noah Clowney contributed 22 points, and Nic Claxton recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Nets fell to 3-14 with this defeat.
The Raptors played without starting center Jakob Poeltl, who was rested due to lower back issues. Head coach Darko Rajakovic stated that Poeltl will not participate in both games of back-to-back matchups for the time being. Rookie forward Collin Murray-Boyles returned to the lineup after missing two games due to a medial collateral ligament sprain in his right knee, finishing with two points in 17 minutes.
In a game that saw Toronto struggle at times, particularly in the third quarter, they were out-rebounded 40-32. However, the Raptors managed to pull away in the fourth quarter. After Porter tied the game at 104-104, Toronto responded with a 10-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from point guard Immanuel Quickley.
Brandon Ingram also made headlines by scoring 14 points, surpassing 10,000 career points. He became the fifth player from the 2016 draft class to reach this milestone.
Looking ahead, the Raptors will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday, while the Nets will face the New York Knicks at home the same day.
