VCU’s plan to build a massive new residence hall on Grace Street has taken another step forward.
The university’s board of visitors last week approved a $25.5 million contract with Kjellstrom & Lee to begin site work on the 1-acre property at 720 W. Grace St. and 700 W. Grace St., to make way for a 14-story dorm complex with room for 1,000 beds.
The site work contract would include demolition of existing structures on the parcels – the BookHolders building and a three-story VCU office building – as well as excavation and utility improvements.
