In October last year the portrait of Lord Wallace Browne was damaged during an event held at the building.

It was reported the portrait was taken down from a wall in the building and its glass was damaged. Repair work for the portrait cost ratepayers almost £2,500.

First Minister Michelle O’Neill previously told MLAs that a Sinn Fein employee, working in the Assembly, had “made the party chief whip aware of their involvement” in the incident.

That employee was suspended and then resigned.

The incident was investigated by police as a hate crime.
