A grassroots effort to warn those at risk of detainment by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has spread from Los Angeles to Chicago to Seattle — and now to Vancouver.
White Oak Books, 1700 Main St., Vancouver, is giving away plastic “ICE whistles.”
Activists created a downloadable design for 3D printing the whistles, which they’ve been distributing along with instructions on when and how to blow them, according to Washington Whistles .
White Oak Books is currently the only store here to carry the whistles. The store received its first supply of whistles three weeks ago and has since restocked them four times. The store’s supply was donated by local residents inspired by Chicagoan’s usage of whistles to draw attention to active ICE presence, store owner Sara Galvin said.
