The New York Giants have fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.
Interim coach Mike Kafka made the move after the Giants (2-10) blew a double-digit lead and lost 34-27 to the Detroit Lions in overtime on Sunday to become the first team eliminated from playoff contention. It was their sixth straight loss and fifth this season after leading in the fourth quarter.
Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen is being named interim defensive coordinator, a source confirmed to ESPN and first reported by longtime NFL reporter Josina Anderson.
Sunday's loss was also the Giants' 12th straight road loss dating to last season, extending a franchise record. All five of this campaign's blown double-digit leads have been on the road.
