Mark Pappas, founder of Pappas Restaurant & Sports Bar, died at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of hospitality and community service.
The restaurant made the announcement on its Facebook page Monday morning, saying that Pappas died on Sunday, surrounded by his family.
“We will forever honor the life and legacy of Mr. Mark Pappas. May he rest in peace, and may his spirit continue to inspire the work we do every day,” the post read in part.
Pappas was born in 1932 in Northern Greece. He immigrated to the United States and settled in Baltimore in 1956. By 1961, Pappas learned English and became a U.S. citizen.
In 1972, Pappas took over Wargo’s Western Steak House & Stag Bar in Parkville and renamed it Pappas Restaurant & Sports Bar. From there, he developed a diverse menu for every
