A three-year-old boy has died after a devastating house fire in Chester, officials announced on Friday, Nov. 21.
Sy’Aire Redd, 3, was pulled from the burning Wilson Street home on Wednesday, Nov. 19, around 8:45 p.m., but later succumbed to his injuries, according to the City of Chester Bureau of Fire.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames tearing through the residence on the 200 block of Wilson Street, with reports of someone still trapped inside, officials said. Crews forced their way in, battling rapidly deteriorating conditions as they searched the home, according to the release.
Firefighters located Sy’Aire and rushed him outside, where EMS crews immediately provided advanced medical care. He was taken to a hospital but did not survive, authorities said.
His mother, Embraya, was also rescued and remains hospitalized in critical condition. Another resident was transported for treatment as well.
The fire prompted a Second Alarm due to the volume of flames and structural challenges, bringing in assistance from neighboring departments for suppression, RIT, and overhaul operations. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated and released, officials said.
The blaze was brought under control after about an hour. The cause remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office, Delaware County CID, and the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal.
Community members have expressed deep grief over the loss, remembering Sy’Aire as a beloved child and his mother as a fiercely dedicated parent fighting for her life. A balloon release and prayer gathering will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 6 p.m. on the 200 block of Wilson Street in his honor.
The City of Chester Bureau of Fire thanked mutual aid partners and the community for their support, noting the bravery and tireless work of first responders throughout the incident.
