MONTECITO HEIGHTS— A motorcycle rider was injured early this morning when his bike crashed into the right shoulder barrier of a 110 Freeway off-ramp in Highland Park and he fell into the Arroyo Seco River channel below.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:11 a.m. and it occurred on the Avenue 43 off-ramp from the northbound 110 Freeway.
The CHP issued a SigAlert for lanes 2 and 3 of the 110 Freeway and the Avenue 43 off-ramp so that Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters and paramedics could stabilize the injured man and hoist him up to a waiting ambulance.
Video from the scene showed the rescue. It appeared the motorcycle rider landed on the cement, not in the water and the photographer estimated he fell 40 to 50 feet.
