LANETT, Ala. (WTVM) - The city of Lanett’s mayor has confirmed that one person has died following a shooting involving police officers.

In a social media post, Mayor Jamie Heard says that a “young man was shot and killed following an encounter with Lanett police officers” on Sunday. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating this incident. You can read the full post below:

A manhunt was underway in the city on Sunday as authorities searched for a person who opened fire on a Lanett police officer Sunday afternoon. No word yet if this was connected to the officer involved shooting.

Heard says “verified information” will be released when it becomes available.
