A broken vodka bottle was used to assault a homeless person who was repeatedly stabbed in the face and was left with deep and bloody gashes. As a result of the attack, the victim will likely be left with permanent scarring.
Martin Hewings, 51, brandished the smashed glass bottle at Robert Proffitt in Cardiff city centre on September 7 after the pair had been arguing in St Mary Street. The defendant was caught on CCTV smashing the bottle of the victim's head, causing it to smash.
A sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on Monday, November 24 heard the assault continued a short while later. F or the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter .
