A VIEWPOINT which overlooks one of the world's most important geological sites could be set to receive a major upgrade.
The Edinburgh Geological Society has applied for permission to upgrade a path to Siccar Point in the Scottish Borders and rename it to mark the 300th anniversary of James Hutton's birth.
Described as the father of modern geology, Hutton, who was a Scottish geologist, agriculturalist and physician, visited Siccar Point in 1788.

In a document submitted to the Scottish Borders Council, the Edinburgh Geological Society has proposed to rebrand the viewpoint as the Siccar Point Deep Time Discovery Trail in memory of the Scot who they said was a “man ahead of his time”.
