A petrol station patron who opted out of purchasing a lottery scratchcard at the last moment ended up making a colossal blunder. This is because the fortunate customer who approached the counter shortly afterwards decided to take the discarded scratch card and immediately won £760,000.

The 33-year-old winner, who has chosen to stay anonymous, explained that the ticket had been left behind by a previous customer so he thought he'd give it a whirl.

"I scratched the ticket off and couldn't believe it when I saw it was a $1million (£760k) winner," he added. "I never would have thought I'd win such a large lottery prize, so it's truly a blessing."
