WESTFIELD - Westfield High School senior Kaitlynn Goulette and freshman Krystyna Goulette have developed a walkable, scale model of the solar system as a permanent installation on the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail. Students and families are invited to attend the ribbon cutting, which will take place on Sat., Nov. 29 at noon. “It’ll be out of this world,” they said.
The Goulettes first developed the solar system walk in chalk for the CGRT’s Glow Walk event. “We measured the distances of all the planets -- every foot equal to 530,000 miles,” said Kaitlynn. Since the Glow Walk is at night, they timed it so the sun was setting as they were walking down. “So by the time we reached the dry bridge it was dark, and we observed the planets and the moon from our telescope.” She said about 75 to 100
