Amik Robertson tilted his head, his eyes widened and he exhaled.

“[Expletive] wasn’t going right,” the Detroit Lions ’ feisty cornerback, using some colorful language, blurted. “Crazy [Expletive] was happening out there.”

Roughly 15 minutes after his team rallied to outlast the New York Giants in a somewhat stupefying 34-27 overtime victory Sunday, Nov. 23, Robertson was still trying to make sense of it all. A 2-9 team with an interim coach, a third-string quarterback, and one of the NFL’s most porous defenses had just pushed the Lions to the brink, threatening their entire season.
