Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the theft of a cross that dates back the late 1800s.

Police believe the item was stolen between Nov. 6 and 8.

The cross is the property of a Catholic church in Tecumseh.

"This cross holds substantial historical value as it is the original cross from Ste. Anne's Church, dating back to 1891," OPP said in a media release on Monday.

Officers are asking anyone with information that could aid the investigation to come forward.
