PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Playing competitive chess isn't exactly a walk in the park, but the members of the Rittenhouse Chess club make it easy for anyone to pick up the pieces and play.

The group was started about four years ago by Andrew Graham, who moved to Philadelphia from Wyoming and was looking to meet new people.

It started with playing a few passersby in Rittenhouse Square. Now, it is in an online group with more than 1,000 members.

They meet most Wednesdays at 6:00pm and Sundays at 1:00pm. The gatherings are free and loyal members are known to provide mats and pieces for everyone to play.

The group has also branched out to hosting tournaments, with a recent outing tallying roughly 60 competitors.
