A man with dementia married his girlfriend after 15 years together so that he can celebrate the wedding before his condition worsens

For Terry Smith and his longtime love, Jo Johnson, the vow of "in sickness and in health" is especially meaningful.

Smith, 86, was diagnosed with dementia two years ago, per the BBC . He and Johnson, 91, who have been together for 15 years, had always planned to get married. However, the difficult health news inspired them to speed up their timeline and set a date so that Smith could still remember their special day before his dementia progresses.
