A new Parkrun has launched with more than 100 runners taking on the inaugural 5k.

The free weekly event at Elemore Country Park in Sunderland welcomed 152 participants on its Saturday debut.

It joins existing events at Silksworth, Fulwell Quarry, and Herrington Country Park, with junior runs at Mowbray Park and Hetton Lyons Country Park.

Across all five existing parkruns in the city, Sunderland regularly welcomes between 2,000 and 3,000 participants each weekend.

Councillor Beth Jones, cabinet member for communities, culture, and tourism at Sunderland City Council, said: "We’re thrilled to see parkrun come to Elemore Country Park.
