The Rev. Stephen Tillett, the longtime pastor at Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church, wants to expand his influence into Maryland state politics.

Tillett has filed paperwork to run as a Democrat for the Maryland state Senate where, if he is elected, he promises to be the “voice in the room” for the community he’s been involved with for 22 years.

Tillett is the only candidate who has filed for the 32nd District other than incumbent Democrat Pamela Beidle, who has served as a state Senator since 2019 after representing the area in the House of Delegates. The Democratic primary will be held June 23, 2026, and candidates have until Feb. 24 to file. Beidle did not immediately respond Friday to a request for comment.
