Sophie Sullivan, 48, a youth worker, has banned her five children from having smartphones until they have finished their GCSEs - and says no amount of pressure will change her mind
Sophie Sullivan, a youth worker and mother of five, has taken a firm stance against her children owning smartphones until they've completed their GCSEs.
She's not alone in this approach; Prince William recently disclosed that his 12-year-old son, Prince George , doesn't own a smartphone and may only be allowed a basic "brick" phone when he starts secondary school.
Despite this, Ofcom reports that 97% of UK children have smartphones by the age of 12, with nearly one in five three to five year olds using one. The average age for smartphone ownership is shockingly low at just nine years old.
