David and Susan Jeffcock 'lived well together', their nephew said (Image: Facebook)
A "devoted" elderly couple who jumped to their deaths from a clifftop left "some sort of marker" at the scene of the tragedy, an inquest heard.
David and Susan Jeffcock had sent a letter to their solicitor confirming they intended to end their lives before they were found on rocks at the base of East Cliff, in Whitby, North Yorkshire, on July 30 this year.
An inquest in Northallerton today (November 24) heard Mr Jeffcock, 80, and Mrs Jeffcock, 74, who spent most of their lives in Sheffield, had moved to the seaside town after they retired.
Mr Jeffcock's nephew, Kevin Shepherd, said his uncle had bone cancer and must have decided to kill himself because he was in pain, with Susan following him.
