The Premier League's decision to scrap PSR and introduce Squad Cost Ratio rules could make it even more difficult for the likes of Aston Villa to challenge the established elite.
That's according to Dr Tom Bason, Assistant Professor (Research) at Coventry University, who thinks Friday's vote might serve to cement the dominance of the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
The changes, which come into effect for the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season, will see one set of financial regulations replaced with another.
Gone will be Profitability & Sustainability Rules which limited clubs to losses of £105million over a three year period - a set of regulations of which Nassef Sawiris was massively critical.
In come rules similar to UEFA's which Villa have to operat
