TREMONT, Ill. – Tremont Police say there’s no indication of any threats after an unloaded firearm was allegedly found at a school.

Police say they were notified by Tremont Middle School administration on Monday of the firearm reportedly found in the backpack of a student and stored in their locker. The weapon was turned over to the School Resource Officer.

Police say the student was already isolated from the general student population prior to the discovery.

The incident is under investigation.

In a statement, Tremont Police says “bringing weapons onto school grounds is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
