More than 100 Light of Life Rescue Mission volunteers formed a giant assembly line Monday morning inside a Sewickley warehouse.
For hours, the volunteers filled thousands of boxes with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy and pie.
The food was then shipped to families who otherwise wouldn’t have a Thanksgiving dinner later this week.
Though Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits have resumed heading into the holiday season, the impacts set struggling families back even more.
The residual effects from the sudden pause in benefits — on top of rising food prices — have caused a significant increase in food insecurity this Thanksgiving, organizers say.
Light of Life is ensuring that need is met by packing thousands of additional meals.
