Motorists who change their name, move to California from a different state or otherwise make the information on their driver’s license incorrect need to stop driving with their old license as soon as they get a new one, according to the state.

That’s because when the California Department of Motor Vehicles issues you a new license it invalidates the old expired, lost, stolen or inaccurate license, said Jason Morton at the California Highway Patrol’s Redding office.
