Belleville Police Acting Sgt. Jeff Sarley is among the latest recipients of the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery.

Ontario’s Ministry of the Solicitor General made the announcement Monday afternoon in a news release.

After police received multiple reports on Sept. 21, 2024 of a cube truck driving dangerously through a Belleville neighbourhood, Sarley rushed to the scene.

The truck had struck vehicles, yards, and a house.

“Fearing for public safety, Sarley positioned his cruiser across the street to block the truck’s path,” reads the release.

“As the truck accelerated toward him, he escaped on foot mere seconds before the truck violently collided with his cruiser, spinning it 15 m and crushing its front end.

“Despite the life-threatening situation, Sarley immediately returned to arrest
