CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two men were convicted Monday in the fatal shooting of a popular Charlotte restaurant co-owner during a 2019 robbery.
Terry Connor, 39, and Steven Staples, 36, were found guilty of murder, kidnapping, and robbery charges in the death of Scott Brooks, who was killed at his family's Brooks' Sandwich House restaurant in the NoDa neighborhood on Dec. 9, 2019. Both men received life sentences without the possibility of parole.
According to prosecutors, Connor and Staples ambushed Brooks as he arrived around 4:45 a.m. to open the cash-only restaurant. They moved him out of public view, robbed him, and shot him multiple times before leaving him to die, prosecutors said.
